Contrast hydrotherapy has long been used to help treat a wide array of ailments. The natural spring pools at Castle Hot Springs, along with the cold outdoor shower plunge, make the perfect combination of elements to complete a soaking circuit. The unique combination of minerals in the hot springs supplements the benefits of hydrotherapy, making your soak a one-of-kind experience that leaves you feeling refreshed.
IMMERSE
Start your therapy in the middle pool, where waters are 96 F (36 C), to let your body slowly adjust to the warmth. Spend about 10-15 minutes here clearing your mind, looking at the natural desert beauty surrounding you and focusing on your breathing. Warm water makes the blood vessels relax, increasing blood flow and bringing nutrients and oxygen to organs throughout the body.
REJUVENATE
Take a quick rinse in our cold-water shower of 58 F (14.4 C) for an invigorating experience! Following hot water with cold is where the “contrast” comes from and it has incredible health benefits. The shock of cold water makes the blood vessels contract, and the body moves to store heat internally. The vascular dilation and constriction experienced by hot and cold contrast bathing is an excellent workout for your cardiovascular system, and can also help with muscle soreness and inflammation. Count to 30 at a minimum and let the cool water wash over you.
IMMERSE
Next, bring your body back up to temperature at our upper pool, which is around 106 F (41 C). Your blood vessels will again relax, and as you spend another 10 minutes or so here, you’ll continue to reap the benefits from our water’s natural minerals – Lithium boosts mood, Magnesium reduces inflammation and calms the nerves, and Bicarbonates help remove lactic acid from the muscles.
REFRESH
Another cold shower will once again provide you with all the benefits of contrast bathing.
RELAX
Finally, make your way back to our middle pool. End your circuit by doing focused breathwork, or using your time to float on your back and contemplate the sky. We recommend another 10 to 15 minutes of soaking, however, spend as long as you like, and don’t forget to drink plenty of water when you finish your circuit.
